Nick Vissari, Data Architect and Security Manager

He also keeps a watchful eye on cybersecurity threats to protect vital school system information. Known as someone who creates solutions, Vissari’s work directly impacts students, parents and staff every day.
Growing Friendships and Produce in the Caring Crops Community Garden

Last year, students from Centennial High School (CHS) approached the administration at the Applications and Research Lab (ARL) to discuss using the space next to the greenhouse to establish a Zero Hunger Hub garden. Once the space at ARL was identified, they had to determine where to donate the produce they’d grow and landed on the HCPSS Homewood Center, located on the same property. Throughout their first growing season in the fall, the Homewood Center’s food pantry received regular donations totaling 15 pounds of fresh produce. They already have planted vegetables for spring and summer growing and will continue to donate to Homewood as produce is harvested.
Oakland Mills HS Food Pantry Brings School and Community Together to Help Local Families

Once a month, community members’ cars line the Oakland Mills High School (OMHS) parking lot to attend the school’s food pantry. Established in 2017 in response to an OMHS student’s independent research project, it has since evolved into a large-scale, year-round operation, bringing together the Howard County Food Bank, Wegmans, as well as various OMHS student groups and staff to collect and distribute non-perishable food items, produce, diapers and wipes to families in need.
